00:3501:24Anthony Davis returned to the court Friday night for the New Orleans Pelicansand fans from The Big Easy made sure their team’s talisman knew how they really feel about him, raining boos on Davis as early as the starters’ introduction.
Why wouldn’t they? Davis’ much-publicized trade request hogged the limelight for a good two weeks, putting the team under immense pressure to make a decision on the All-NBA talent.
After the game, Davis addressed the jeers from the home crowd, per Preston Ellis of SB Nation’s The Bird Writes.
“Everybody handled it the way that they want to handle it, and I’ll be here for the rest of the year. I’m here to play basketball, and that’s what I want to do.”
“All the boos. It was fun. It was fun for me.”
Davis, the Pelicans, and their fans are in quite an unenviable situation.
For the superstar, he’s forced to play his best to please a fanbase that has virtually cut its affection towards him. For the team, each minute that Davis plays on the floor puts them on the edge of their seat, hoping for their most-prized asset to come out unscathed after every game. For the fanbase, they’ve been through a lot in terms of sports and the Davis saga is only going to extend for several months.
For what it’s worth, the Pelicans registered a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 122-117, with Davis doing his usual damage on the court — 32 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. He did all these in only 24 minutes as the coaching staff recently announced that he’ll be under a minutes restriction for the rest of the year.
